The Hunt for Warlson

Advertisements

The Hunter’s Guild is stirring with several hunters walking around the tables and drinking mugs full of ale and other liquids. Jubilation is afoot as you walk along the wooden floor with your feet clanking hard against the ground. Diexxus, the large hunter who carries two swords on his sides, walks from table to table, taunting all of the hunters who cannot live up to his stature, both literally and figuratively.

You walk past the tables and over to the huntmaster, who is once again sitting at his table with the large stack of parchment in front of his face. Without paying you any attention, he allows you to rummage through the various pieces of parchment that are posted onto the board. You look at it closely and come across a neatly placed piece of parchment on the far left. Warlson, a large boar found near the farms across the Sariak River to the south of Sunshire, has been found digging for truffles and tearing up the crops around the farm.

“Boars are quite a bore, if you know what I mean,” announces a boisterous Diexxus, who seems to have had one too many ales in the Hunter’s Guild. “You should really challenge yourself with something a bit more rewarding.” Diexxus mocks you a bit before walking back over to the other hunters. Though he demeans you slightly, you’re still holding onto the parchment tightly. The reward is 400 gold, which could go along way to getting some better gear and equipment.

You walk past the jubilant hunters and head out of the hall in hopes of taking out your mark as quickly as possible.

The Farm

The sun rises to the east as you take your first steps into the growing fields. Crops, all in beautifully sewn lines for acres, are coming up from the ground and appear to be in great shape. Though patches of torn crops with large holes beside them exist, the bulk of the fields are in fantastic condition with a bountiful harvest on the horizon. The sun shines down on your face as you look out over the field, not seeing any sign of the creature yet. Without any evidence, you're left to only walk through the field in the hopes of finding a sign.

While walking through the rows of crops, you hear a rustling from across the field. You look over the crops to see the tops of them sway. You stop moving and listen toward the area in question. The sound of birds chirping overhead can be heard with ease, but you hear a snorting coming from the area. You grab your weapon and wade through the crops, pushing them to the side while trying your best to move quietly. The snorting continues as your feet hit the soft ground around the crops, sinking into the dirt slightly before you pick it up and keep going.

Through the final set of crops, you are able to see a brown hog with large tusks and an even bigger snout. His head is partially burrowed in the ground as he tries to find truffles with the crops to the side of the hole starting to tip over. You turn your head to see more holes throughout the area. Warlson, the mark you've been sent to eliminate, has destroyed nearly an entire row of crops in his search for truffles. He removes his snout from the ground and looks up at you. Immediately startled, Warlson snarls and snorts before stirring up dirt with his back hooves. He snarls loudly before charging toward you, angry that you interrupted him during his quest for more truffles.

Commence Battle with Warlson

The large warthog staggers a bit while staring at you with the life leaving his eyes. His front hooves give out first and his head slams into the ground. His eyes close slowly as the back legs fall forward. Warlson, the truffle searching warthog, has been vanquished and you are free to return to the Hunter's Guild to collect your reward.
