An Innocent Time in the Pub

Beer and mead are flowing from large, glass bottles located around the wooden bar. Several patrons sit, belly up against the wooden bar while many of the tables around the large room are full of patrons, all drinking amber substances from out of large mugs and chalices. Men and women, all jovial, experience an incredible amount of drunken merriment while continuing to be served.

You sit at your table with your friends and allies close, all sipping from the chalices and vessels that have been provided by the masters of the bar. The bartenders have kept your glasses full so that you never go wanting another drink, though you worry if they stay at this workmanlike pace, you may not need many more. The merriment inside the pub is second to none with songs breaking out in unison from the other end with men and women both leaping onto the wooden tables to dance.

You look across the bar and then back to your glass, trying your best to keep to yourself without disrupting the locals having a good time. The door to the pub opens up and a soldier from the city of Werz stumbles in. You notice that he is bleeding from his right leg and face and his armor appears to have seen some very recent combat. He peers around the room as if he is looking for a lost ally to aid him in battle when his eyes find your table. You stumbles forward to your table and sits down beside you, reaching for a glass of mead in the center. He turns it up and guzzles the amber liquid down before placing the glass back on the table. “You seem like the kind of lot that can help out a soldier in need,” he says in a very exasperated tone. “My battalion was inside a cavern on the Peroney Mountains, searching for the Yeti that have been terrorizing the roads going across it and eating the merchants and travelers. While we were in that cavern, we found more than we were bargaining for. Trolls, all carrying spears and wearing the pelts of the Yeti, reside within those walls but what’s worse, a large dragon lives within the icy walls of that cave.”

He pauses for a moment while he stares at the wooden table. You look across at your allies curiously before turning back to the soldier. “My comrades all fell to the icy breath of that dragon and I need the help of some adventurers or mercenaries to get them back.”

You look at your allies and smirk before pushing yourself away from the table and reaching into your knapsack for some coin. The Werz Soldier holds his hand out, motioning for you to put your coin away. He instead tosses enough coin to the bartender to cover your expenses and then some. You nod approvingly before walking out of the bar with the soldier behind you, into the streets of Sunshire. The cool chill of the wind blowing off the Sariak River sends a chill down your spine as you turn to walk down the street and out of the city. The Peroney Mountain is not far from the city of Sunshire, so getting there will not take much effort or time. “Do be careful, adventurers,” exclaims the soldier. “I have faith that you will slay that dragon, but do take care. She is a vile creature who can freeze you in your tracks with her breath!”

You listen to his shouts but continue on, leaving the confines of the city and out into the fields around Sunshire. Your destination is the Peroney Mountain and the caverns that lie beneath it.
