While walking through the streets of Sunshire, you are approached by a young man who whistles for you to come near. “Hey,” he says to you while you walk up. “You look pretty strong. I gotta job for you that may save my ass and get me the respect in the Syndicate I deserve.” You look at the young man with confusion, perplexed at why he picked you out, but you choose to listen to his request.

“Look, there is this Vault in a giant mansion in this city. It’s owned by some weird recluse who never comes out and always has some weird looking thugs at the door. You look like you might be strong enough to handle them,” he explains slowly. “Here’s what I need. Go in there, steal a couple things, and bring them back to me and I’ll make sure you’re handsomely rewarded.”

“The mansion is owned by someone named Kerriges and no one has seen the guy in years. No one even remembers what he looks like. I promise, it’ll be a piece of cake. Do this job, and I swear it’ll be worth it to you.”

Do you venture into the mansion to find the Vault of Kerriges?

 

The Front Lawn

You walk up to the vault as the one of the moons illuminate the streets in front of  it. The building itself is magnificent, consisting of large, marble columns, stone walls, and large windows that allow in all of the natural light from the sky. You see several men, heavily armed, walk past the front door as you try your best to stay in the shadows. Several passers-by and onlookers are walking the streets tonight, so none of the men inside the gates pay you any attention, as they’re used to people walking up to admire the vast structure.

 

You look past the gate to see several people walking about the courtyard. They are loud, boisterous, and borderline unruly as they sing and chant the praises of their master. You can’t make out his name, but they are very proud to sing it as loud as they can. The men toward the building are looking on at them, distracted and, from what you can tell, bothered by their shenanigans.

 

As you examine the area, trying your best to put the loud chants behind you, you notice there are three doors into the building. Two of the doors are on opposite sides of the building and are concealed by trees and shadows and it appears as if you could walk up to them without much of a struggle while the main door in the center is heavily guarded, though potentially not by anyone who would be much of a problem to get by.

Into the Shadows on the Right

You feel it’s best to travel in the shadows and head to the path on the right. You avoid the large mob, keeping your distance from them while moving slowly over the fence and into the courtyard. You stay close to the fence as you make your move through the area, keeping between you and the loud mob. You walk around and eventually make your way through the moonlight and over to the door that you find secured with two guards standing in front it. You know what you have to do, and leap down and ambush them before they have an opportunity to see you.

 

The first guard is knocked unconscious from you landing on him and his head slamming into the ground. The second guard is dazed and grabs his weapon.

 

Commence Battle with Enforcer 

 

Both men are on the ground and the door is clear for you to walk through. You open it slowly and find a very large and lavish hallway, filled with paintings of beautiful women along both walls. Large chandeliers filled the hallway with light and allowed you to walk through unabated. You keep notice of the walls, seeing all of the beautiful women before reaching a set of double doors. You pull on the door knobs to open the doors and enter the next area.

 

Once inside the building, you find beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling that are illuminating the area. White, stone floors are beneath your feet with stone walls on both sides of you. On the walls, you notice several paintings of the countryside, the river, and a few portraits of beautiful women. In front of you, a large corridor leads to a large open ballroom.

 

In the ballroom, you see several large busts sitting on pedestals all throughout the room with more paintings adorning the walls. Small plans are resting against the tall windows at the far end of the room with an enormous chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

 

You look around the room, trying to find the entrance into the vault. You walk into the center of the room and turn around slowly, examining the entirety of the large room when you see a large staircase as the only exit out of the room besides the way you came in.

 

Without much thought, you walk toward the staircase, noticing the fine wooden banister and stained wooden planks for the steps. You walk up slowly, keeping your weapons drawn in case you run into any of the guards. You make it to the top of the stairs and find yourself staring at four openings, all leading to different hallways, each one looking identical to the other.

 

Which way will you go?

 

The first door on the left.

Into the Shadows on the Left

You feel it’s best to travel in the shadows and head to the path on the left. The large mob is moving to the left, and as you follow the path, you have to run in the shadows to keep your distance from them. You move quickly, keeping a good path before reaching the door to find several men standing there. You leap down and join the men, all clearly waiting to gain entrance into the mansion from the side door. “You guys here for the show?” asks the man in front of you before turning back around and ignoring you.

 

You look around the area to find a few women, all wearing leather and carrying whips, standing near the door. They look you over before motioning for you to enter with the rest of the men who are standing there. You walk in a line behind the other men, entering a hallway and trying not to draw attention to yourself. The men are all brought into the hallway before and turn, prompting you to leave the line and duck through a set of double doors without being seen.

Up to the Front Door

You decide it’s best to throw caution to the wind and traipse right in through the front door. It’s a brave move. You open the gate and walk in, catching the attention of the mob of men who is walking around in front of the courtyard. After taking a few steps, the crowd notices you walking toward the front door. They point, scream, stumble, and charge toward you in a manner that is similar to how most angry mobs move toward you.

 

Commence Battle with Vagrant x 3 and Vagabond x 2

 

The first set of the unruly mob fall to the grass without much of a struggle, but more of them are waiting for you.

The second wave falls on top of the first bodies with two left to stand between you and the front door. However, the two men take off for the front door in the hopes that they can rendezvous with those who could potentially offer them help.

 

You watch them run off and take off after them, running toward the front door with your weapons drawn. You make great time and reach the open door, finding that they have met up with three very large individuals.

 

Commence Battle with Vagabond x 2 and Enforcer x 3

 

The five bodies are tossed to the side, leaving your path inside unabated.

First Door on the Left

You walk through the door on the far left, entering into a long hallway with white walls and red carpet. The walls are bland and void of any artwork and there are no statues or busts lining the corridor. The ceiling is low and white, with only candles along the wall illuminating the room, but doing so very well. For being night, it is very bright inside this room.

 

You walk to the end of the corridor and find a set of double doors. You open them up and walk in, finding yourself in an armory, filled with cases of old and ancient weapons and armor. You take stock in the glamour that some of the pieces possess, noticing that many of them lack usefulness with the exception of a club against the wall.

 

Acquire: Simple Stick

 

After pulling down the club, you hear a loud bang coming from another doorway. You look back, seeing the doors slam open and three men carrying large weapons appearing in front of you.

 

Commence Battle with Enforcer x 3

 

The Enforcers fall over and you’re left looking at a hallway. You step over their bodies and walk through the set of double doors into another brightly lit hallway with another set of double doors at the end.

 

You walk through the double doors and find yourself in a small room with a spiral staircase that heads down to the first floor, though as you look at the stairs closely, it may go further than that. You breathe slowly as you look at the metal steps, pondering what could await you at the bottom. You think of the potential riches and treasures, but also what else could be stored down there. You ponder what madness may await you.

 

As your only way, you place your left foot on the step and start your descent. You make the trek slowly, keeping your hands on the iron rail while you climb down the stairs. The area around you becomes thicker and the aura becomes darker. You descend for some time, eventually finding yourself on a thick, cold, stone floor. The walls are dark and the room is only lit by a single torch on the far wall.

 

You try your best to examine what’s in the room, but it’s far too dark to get a good idea of what’s on the walls and ceiling. You can feel that the ground is slightly damp as you walk toward the wall where the torch is placed. On that wall, you can see a door shaped indentation in the stone. You place your hand on it and feel a cool draft coming through.

 

You examine the wall around the door, looking for a switch or a latch to open it so you can continue your journey. You suspect that this is the vault, which motivates you get through this door as quickly as possible. On the right side of what you believe is a door, you find a small switch that is sticking straight out of the stone. You examine it closely, pulling the torch off of the wall and bringing it close to see that it is in a neutral position, but can go either up or down.

 

Which direction will you flip the switch?

Second Door on the Left (Middle-Left Passage)

You walk through the middle-left passage and enter a long, white hallway with red carpet. The area is very bland, but at the very end, you see a large set of white, double doors. You approach them slowly, keeping your eyes out for any traps or guards blocking the path. As you make your way to the doors, they open up in front of you without your hands on the knobs.

 

The room is very small, dusty, and full of books and tomes. You’ve found the master’s study, which seems to have been undisturbed for sometime. You wonder if the master of this house ever reads a book, but shake your head and smirk while walking softly through the room. You let your guard down for a brief moment while examining the room further, noticing the large windows at the end of the room that aren’t letting much light in. The thick dust and cobwebs on the windows are blocking the moonlight from entering the room, though enough light is coming in to at least show you your path.

 

As you’re walking through the room, you notice a neatly stitched cloth robe sitting on one of the chairs.

You pick up the robe as you hear footsteps behind you. You turn and see three large men entering the room from behind you.

 

Commence Battle with Enforcer x 3

 

The enforcers fall to the ground and a door on the far end of the room opens up in front of you. You run toward it, knowing that more enforcers are on the way.

Second Door on the Right (Middle-Right Passage)

You find yourself in a very bland hallway with white walls and a red carpet leading toward a large set of double doors. You make it to the double doors and walk through them, finding yourself in a room surrounded by women, all standing in shock to see you.

 

These women are all wearing next to nothing, barely covering anything except for their chest and bottoms. You look at the women as they remain quiet and noticeably startled to see you barge into the room. You look around the room, noticing several plush chairs lining the room in the corners where the candle light cannot reach. In the center of the room, two large beds are setup with their headboards against each other. Under the beds, shackles are lying on the ground and are clearly meant for the person who is on the bed.

 

As you’re looking at the expressions of the scantily clad women, you start to imagine that this mansion doesn’t house a vault at all. You’re wondering if the man who hired you for this mission was under the impression that the riches that are in this mansion were more of the flesh.

 

You walk past the women toward a set of doors at the end of the room, walking through them and into the next room.

 

A loud scream from a man followed by a fierce cackle from a woman pierce your ears as you go through the doors. You look into the room, seeing a woman clad in leather straddling a man while holding a whip against his bare chest. She slams the leather down into his bare chest, forcing him to scream again as you look on. She’s smiling gleefully as she brings about a euphoria of pain and pleasure. Her brunette hair is long and is bound behind her. It waves on her back as she moves her head from side to side.

 

She turns her head and hits the man across the chest again, though instead of cackling, she looks perturbed. She turns her head slowly and looks at you with disdain. “We charge extra if you just want to watch,” she says scornfully before moving her leg over her victim to place her feet on the floor. She reaches back and grabs her whip, holding it firmly in her hand while stepping toward you. She cracks the whip, making a loud pop that fills the room. “I don’t like it when people interrupt my session,” she says slowly. “This man paid top dollar for a night of my pleasure and you’re taking it from him. I’m sure he doesn’t appreciate it one bit.”

 

She pauses for a moment as four large men run out from the back room and look at you, all holding their weapons. She cracks her whip again and the men charge in to attack you.

 

Commence Battle with Enforcer x 4

 

The Enforcers fall to the ground, leaving you standing there in front of the woman holding the whip. A smirk appears across her face as she looks at you with a devilish grin. She cracks the whip again before pulling it behind her and cracking it toward you.

 

Commence Battle with Dominatrix

 

“That’s enough!” shouts a woman from the back of the room, watching the entire battle take place. The Dominatrix is on one knee as the man on the bed is enjoying the respite, clearly purchasing something he regretted. The woman walks up, revealing herself to be blonde with pink, leather pants and a tightly fitting white shirt. She looks at you with scorn and disappointment before walking in front of the Dominatrix. “Are you alright?” she asks calmly. The Dominatrix nodded timidly and slowly, prompting a swift slap across her face from the blonde woman. “Don’t you ever show weakness in my house ever again!” she screams.

 

The blonde woman turns away from the dominatrix and looks at you again. “I’m sorry you had to see that. Some of the women in my employ enjoy being in charge, but don’t know how to act when they’re around someone more dominant.” She pauses for a moment while she approaches you and places her hand out. “My name is Kerriges, and I am the owner of this mansion. I take it, you have come in here to rob me, no?”

 

You nod your head, forcing a smirk from Kerriges. “That’s great,” she replies. “Must be another of those Syndicate assholes thinking they can get one over on me. Look, I’m not going to hurt you or have you killed, just make it a point to tell that fool that if he or any of his friends come in here to start trouble, I will see to it that their entire organization comes to a swift end.”

 

She steps away from you and grabs a chest, bringing it forward and setting it in front of you. “Here, for your troubles and for delivering the message for me.”

First Door on the Right

You find yourself in a very bland hallway with white walls and a red carpet leading toward a large set of white doors. The hallway is out of sorts, as the only artwork on the wall is just of a single woman standing still in a majestic pose. You walk past it without studying it and reach the double doors, pushing them open to find something completely startling.

 

You walk in to find the walls covered with whips, chains, and shackles. You see several beds against the walls in the corners with cloth dividers to provide privacy. Female clothing and tattered men’s clothing are scattered about the floors while other personal items are littered throughout the room. You have an awkward feeling come over you as you walk through the room, wondering if the man who sent you in here actually knew what this place was. You have the feeling that there isn’t a Vault for you to break into.

 

You move through the dimly lit room slowly toward a set of doors, pushing them open and entering another room.

Flipping the Switch Up

You flip the switch up and hear a rustling around the door, followed by a shift in the stone in front of you. The door starts to recess into the wall and open before your eyes. The door swings open and a bright, white light emanates from inside the room. You walk in to find several large cases with weapons, armor, and other riches that are locked in front of you.

 

You walk through the room slowly, noticing the riches and are awestruck at how you’ve made your way into the vault. All of the cases are firmly locked with a thick material blocking your way in. You cannot pull it open or smash the case. Only a key will open them.

 

In the center of the room, you see a large, wooden table with several scrolls and parchment scattered about. You hover over it, searching for a key to get the treasures out of the cases. You rummage about on the table when a loud bang fills the room and echoes off of the walls. You turn quickly to see a young blonde woman with tightly fitting pink pants and a white top staring at you. “Quite impressive that someone was actually able to make it into my vault,” she says with a hint of sarcasm. She looks at you closely and sees you going through the things on her table. “You’re not going to find the key over there, love. I promise you that.”

 

You stand still, looking at the woman as she walks around you and over to a small chest at the far end of the room. “You’re quite brave, love. You killed a few people that I liked tonight and a whole bunch of people I’ve never met. I admire that and I don’t know what possessed you to come into my home, but I’m going to reward you for it.”

 

You reach for your weapon, prompting her to hold her hand up and motion for you to relax. “Oh please, I’m not going to hurt you. You’re a little too valuable to be killed, and besides, if I wanted you dead, you’d already be making your acquaintance with Vesya.” She reaches into a small chest and pulls out a few things and tosses them to you. “Here, take these things for your trouble and stay close. I may need someone like you in the future to help me out with a few jobs.”

“Oh, and take this too,” she continues while handing you a small rope. “My name is Kerriges. Never forget it.” As the words leave her lips, you are transported out of the vault and into the pub, where you’re sitting at a table in the corner. In front of you, an amber liquid in a glass is waiting on you.

Flipping the Switch Down

You flip the switch down and nothing happens with the door in front of you. You stand still for a moment and look at the door, hoping for it to open when the floor beneath you is pulled out from beneath your feet and you descend down a dark chute. You descend for several seconds before landing in a small pool of water to cushion your fall.

 

Soaked, you stand up in a panic and get out of the water to examine the room. Torches fill the area to brighten it and offer you a chance to fully examine the room. Statues line all of the walls with busts sitting on pedestals and other artistic riches lining the wall. You walk through the room slowly, trying not to find any traps or other things that would impede your progress.

 

At the far end of the room, you see a large, iron statue holding a magnificent Great Axe. You approach it, admiring the craftsmanship and the powerful weapon in his hands. As you get closer, the statue moves slightly, prompting you to stop and draw your weapons. The statue shakes again before taking a step forward.  His face is cold and non-moving while his body appears to be very nimble and spry. He raises his axe high into the air, preparing to defend this area with his life.

 

Commence Battle with Iron Statue

 

The statue drops to the ground and releases his axe, dropping it and bouncing it on the cold ground. You walk over and admire it before picking it up.

 

Acquire: Brass Axe

 

The Iron Statue remains on the ground, but inside of him, you notice something bright and shimmering. You reach into his iron frame to find a shard resonating inside of him.

You look past where the statue was standing to see a small opening in the wall with a ladder behind it. You walk over to the ladder and climb up it. As you reach the fourth rung, your body disappears from the ladder…

 

You appear in the Sunshire Pub, sitting in the corner next to a beautiful blonde woman wearing a white top and pink, tight-fitting pants. In front of you, a small glass of amber liquid is pushed toward you by the blonde woman as she smiles roguishly at you. “So you’re the bastard you broke into my house,” she says with a smirk across her face as she offers you a drink. “My name is Kerriges and I tend to keep the people of this town entertained," she continues with a sly grin.
